Our Plan

Our plan for you, your family and our community!

To UNEQUIVOCALLY OPPOSE the building of up to 12,000 homes locally.  This includes the flawed and doomed HIF Project infrastructure proposals.  These schemes are not designed for existing residents but to simply enable unsustainable mass housing development on the Hoo Peninsula – without the justification and evidence.

To work with decision-makers to get more doctors/nurses in our area.  Health provision and the recruitment of health professionals is a national problem.  However, the Hoo Peninsula is, statistically, particularly disadvantaged due to our worse than national average ratio of residents to GPs.  We’ll work with decision-makers to get fair local health provision for residents.

To campaign for wider protected status of our Hoo Peninsula.  Our area is famous for its internationally and nationally protected wildlife sites, beautiful countryside and highly productive agricultural land.  We’ll campaign for wider protection – Green Belt/Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) – and joining the Kent Downs.

To fight for a Hoo Peninsula circular bus service linking all our villages.  The current local bus service is expensive, unreliable and doesn’t meet the needs of local residents.  We’ll fight for a reliable and regular Hoo Peninsula circular bus service, to be named Nightingale Buses, to connect all our local villages, regardless of size, to Hoo – for changeovers/destinations further afield.

To champion the need for better provision for our children and youth.  Our children’s play areas and parks need to be better and more exciting for all ages.  Young people need support and a proper youth club building like those in other parts of the Medway Towns.  We’ll endeavour to secure our fair share of local youth provision.

To support our police in keeping you, your family and our community safe.  Anti-social behaviour can be tackled with more youth provision and support for young people.  We support the police with their operations and preventative measures such as CCTV.  We take a zero-tolerance approach to drugs and nuisance vehicles in our community.

To bring back green space provision lost to closure or development.   Our area has lost a number of green spaces, sports areas and outdoor facilities to closure and development, despite our local population growing.  We’ll push hard for Deangate Ridge to become an official country park, with elements of golf and other sports, to benefit the health and wellbeing of local people.

To tackle out of control dog fouling and litter blighting our streets.  Dog fouling and littering is out of control in our local community.  Culprits need to be identified and prosecuted and more resources put into tackling grot-spots.  We’ll work hard to clean up our local area.  We have a zero-tolerance approach to dog fouling, littering or fly-tipping.

To establish and promote community and wider Hoo Peninsula identity.  We’re very proud to be Kentish and Hoo Peninsula folk.  We fully support efforts and initiatives to enhance local identity and to recognise our vibrant community, such as a dedicated annual celebratory day and a Hoo Peninsula Flag.  We’ll enhance community spirit and bring people together.

Many residents tell us that they don’t forgive the local political elite for forcing the creation of Medway Council in 1998.  They feel services have deteriorated and local identity destroyed since.  The public weren’t given the chance to vote in a referendum on leaving Kent County Council and on merging Rochester-upon-Medway City Council with Gillingham Borough Council (Rochester’s historic city status was cancelled as well).

We support a local referendum on our area leaving Medway Council’s jurisdiction.
